Network Administrator

The Network Administrator job, based in Northern Alberta, is a full time contract position with our client who is one of the world’s leading independent oil and gas producers. You will have minimum of 5-8 years experience with networking. You will have a strong background in Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, and will work well and communicate effectively with others, be self-starting, creative, and able to think through a project from start to finish. The Network Administrator is expected to provide day to day operational support within the network team on a number of different technologies and travel to the field, as required, to implement solutions.

Rquirements of the Network Administrator job include:

• Good understanding of networking technologies, protocols, and hardware
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve networking issues in a highly complex large scale environment
• Ability to design and implement new solutions based on high-level requirements
• Experience supporting the following networking technologies:Cisco Switches & Routers, OSPF, BGP, QoS, Cisco ACS, Cisco 802.11 Wireless, 802.1X, Syslog, DNS, DHCP, Firewall, Virtual Private Networks
• Familiar with technologies from vendors like Infoblox, F5 LTM/GTM’s, Splunk, Palo Alto, NetApp, HP, Hitachi, Oracle, and McAfee
• Experience supporting the following Data center technologies:
APC UPS’s, PDU’s, Racks, APC Structureware data center/ Central for documentation and monitoring, and manage power & cooling capacities and trends
• Physical racking & cabling of infrastructure assets in corporate and field datacenter environments
• Know how in designing data rooms
• Understanding of basic electrical standards
• Manage shipping and receiving of equipment
• Understanding the different cables standards used in the communications space

TECHNICAL – Nice to have

• SolarWinds experience
• Riverbed WAN optimization and acceleration
• Palo Alto Security Platforms
• Knowledge of Automation / SCADA systems
• Foundational knowledge of Server subsystems, Network Attached Storage, Storage Area Network
• Foundational knowledge of Microsoft & Linux operating systems
• Scripting knowledge in any of the following; Powershell, Python, Perl or other scripting toolsets

• Scheduling changes within specified maintenance windows using the change processes
• Maintains quality of service by enforcing organization standards and procedures
• Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
• Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems
• Ability to lift heavy equipment
• Understanding of network and security architecture
• Manage physical security of data center facilities
• Excellent problem determination skills
• Excellent analytical and technical skills
• Excellent planning and organizational skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to set and manage priorities
• Strong interpersonal skills
