Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer job is a full-time contract position based in Calgary, Alberta. The successful applicant will be an APEGA registered Professional Engineer with 7-10 years" experience within the oil and gas industry including Plant experience, particularly in a SAGD facility. As a member of the mechanical engineering team, you will participate in the execution of small projects and repair scopes relating to day to day plant operations, outages, and turnarounds. This role is suitable for a highly motivated, general Mechanical Engineer with experience in plant repair and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Repair and alterations on all variety of static equipment and piping will be required including:

- Repair plans for corrosion or misc. deterioration (piping, tanks, boiler refractory or tube replacements, exchanger tube plug, coating repairs etc.)

- Break-in work support which would entail review of inspection plans and recommendations on repairs during outages (relatively fast turnaround generally requires previous work experience in this area)

- Support the development of integrity work (review damage mechanisms, operating data vs. IOW"s, prepare inspection plans etc.)

- Support hazop/ risk review discussions from a mechanical

- Create mechanical deliverables and construction scopes for smaller in-house projects ($100k - $5M TIC)

- Support development of upcoming growth opportunities to ensure viability

- Oversee EP on the execution of larger project scopes ($5M+) to ensure adherence to mechanical requirements, quality objectives, and project targets.

- Responsibility for in-house specifications and standards including updates and maintenance

- A significant part of the job is retrieving pertinent information from within databooks, EDMS, and network. As such the position is based in the Calgary office, with remote network access as required for Covid protocols.


- APEGA Registered Professional Engineer

- 5-10 years of relevant experience in the Alberta oil and gas industry; Plant experience is an asset, particularly in a SAGD facility.

- Solid working knowledge of pressure equipment and piping design (application of ASME codes and ABSA regulations) is essential.

- Experience with static and/or rotating equipment and Z662 pipeline design.

- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

- Strong computer skills including full MS Suite, databooks, EDMS, and related Engineering software
