We are on a quest to fill a contract Materials/Instrumentation Technologist position in Edmonton, AB. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in oil & gas related work and have knowledge of the instrumentation used in slurry systems. The Materials Technologist will be responsible preparing test coupons, conduct immersion, adhesion tests, measure material properties. This a contract position with a work schedule of Monday to Friday.
Lab Materials/Instrumentation Technologist job Responsibilities:
• Maintain Non-Metallic materials and Metallurgy labs
• Prepare test coupons from vendor-supplied samples or failed parts from site
• Prepare samples and coupons for analysis using standard cut/grind/polish techniques
• Conduct immersion and adhesion tests and measure material properties
• Measure dry-abrasion resistance using the in-house rotary drum tester
• Ensure all lab equipment is in working order and maintained properly
• Interface with vendors for lab equipment maintenance
Materials Technologist Job Qualifications:
• Three years of experience on oil & gas related projects
• Materials Engineering Technology Diploma
• Registered Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)
• Knowledge of Materials Laboratory technique, procedures, and sample preparation
• Knowledge of instrumentation (strain gauging, flow instrumentation) used in slurry systems
• Experience using 3-D laser scanning technology would be considered an asset
