OVERVIEW:

Our Calgary, Alberta based client is a leading developer of clean energy projects. On the heels of their success with a demonstration project, a major commercial project is now on the horizon offering numerous exciting opportunities for talented professionals experienced in the Oil & Gas Industry.

The present need is for a Syngas Processing Plant Project Engineer. This position is located out the Calgary head office, however regular travel to project site in Central Alberta is anticipated. This is a full time staff role with a competitive remuneration package.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Syngas Processing Plant Project Engineer will handle engineering and management responsibilities related to the engineering, design and construction of the Syngas Processing Plant component of a ISCG / Power Project. The Syngas Processing Plant Project Engineer will work with the FEED and EPC Contractors to ensure adherence to proper design, owner specifications and regulatory requirements. The Syngas Processing Plant Project Engineer will resolve technical issues, manage 3rd party Owner’s engineers, coordinate with operations to ensure adequate design influence and buy in, maintain project schedule, and cost forecasts and provide field project engineering coordinating with construction contractors. In addition, the Syngas Processing Plant Project Engineer will work with the client Project Engineers as well as the Project Manager to successfully manage project scope, cost, schedule, quality and safety.

Requirements:

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the development of project and contract scope definition documents.
• Participate in the selection and negotiation of engineering and construction contractors.
• Work in tandem with all client Project Engineers that are responsible for other components of the ISCG / Power Project, to ensure proper coordination and seamless project scope execution.
• Identify and Manage risk
• Responsible for Engineering Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
• Ensure the integration of QA and Project Controls into the project execution
• Management of design and operational reviews and approvals from key internal client stakeholders (for example, Operations)
• Review technical standards, specifications, drawings and documents.
• Manage 3rd party Owner’s Engineering contractors as require to facilitate design reviews
• Validate the FEED and EPC contractor’s progress and status.
• Manage various technology licensors and ensure proper coordination with the EPC Contractor.
• Coordinate multiple contractors at various stages of the project.
• Support the development of the capital cost estimate at the various project stage gates
• Provide field project engineering coordination and quality control assistance
• Provide technical oversight during startup and commissioning

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent is required. Eligibility to register with APEGGA is required.
• 10+ years applicable experience with engineering development, operations, maintenance, project engineering, project management, design and construction of oil & gas refinery/upgrading or oilsands, heavy industrial or gasification facility equipment systems
• Background with well operations and well drilling/completions will be an asset.
• Experience in coordinating multi-disciplinary activities and a proven ability to work across departments and workgroups in developing capital work plans and plant improvements projects
